NuWave Brio Air Fryer Review: Blend of Versatility, Quality & Affordability

Fresh, new innovations in cooking methods have done a lot to empower the home cook, making it less of a chore and more about creativity and convenience. With so many new appliances in the market to make our lives easier in the kitchen, there’s one that really stands out – The Air-Fryer. Thanks to this convenient appliance, countless people can now enjoy their favorite fried delicacies while avoiding all the extra grease. Now you enjoy the same delicious results as that of powerful convection ovens but in a small table-top form factor.

Today, we’ll take a closer look at the Nuwave Brio – a popular air fryer currently making waves in the market. With a large 6-Quart capacity, advanced features like digital-temperature control and useful accessories such as a convenient non-stick fryer basket, the Brio 6QT aims to take the guesswork out of your healthy cooking lifestyle. Read on to explore its features and our verdict in detail:

How Does The NuWave Brio Perform?

Getting the NuWave Brio fully up and running is pretty easy. The air-fryer comes securely packed, and unboxing it is a hassle-free experience. The Brio is compact, quite so for a 1800W device. The base unit and the cooking basket can be set up in no time and the extendable cord at the back is quite a convenient feature. The Brio features a range of operating modes to choose from, but let’s get to the basics.

The 1800W of power and the 2500rpm fan combine to give a 360-degree heating effect that makes your frozen ready-to-fry foods super crispy and crunchy. The temperature range available is wide up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and adjustable in increments of 5. The wattage is also customizable, in case you’re cooking smaller portions. A lot of additional functions are also built into the NuWave air-fryer, like the sear function that lets you cook at high temperatures and high airspeed for crispier meats.

Whether you’re making crispy fries or waffles it greatly reduces the cooking time and is quite easy to handle, requiring no additional oil (you can lightly baste the fries a little bit though for added flavor). The handy divider is great to separate the different chips while air-frying.

The air-fryer also came with many accessories that made it a lot more functional.

The non-stick baking pan (or basket) was great for baking bread and cakes! The grill pan is ideal for searing meats, hard veggies, and air-frying crunchy bacon in minutes. The multi-layer racks allow you to make use of the full volume of the cooking tray, although make sure to not stuff the air-fryer too much as it can hinder air-flow and result in uneven cooking.

While grilling, you’ll be able to fit 2 portions of chicken wings in the basket and even a whole chicken to grill it, using the additional digital temperature probe, to monitor the chicken cooking on the inside. Do be careful with the basket though as sometimes food might get stuck in the little netting, but cleaning it was quite easy as the net can be removed from the basket. And the small silicone molds were great for cupcakes and even cooked raw eggs for your morning breakfast needs.

The air-fryer comes with NuWave’s handy recipe book featuring all your favorite recipes and you can download their app called the ‘NuWave Cooking Club’ to get access to hundreds more!

What We Liked About It

The NuWave Brio really stands out in terms of its performance and quality of parts. Here are some things we really liked about it:

Convenient Pre-Heat Functionality

As you will probably realize, a lot of Air Fryers in this price range are missing some important features like the ability to pre-heat. However, doing this on the Brio is a simple process. Just set the time, and the temperature and press the preheat button and start the air-fryer.

The timer will start counting down only from the moment the fryer reaches the indicated temperature. Pre-heating the fryer will ensure that your dish cooks evenly, whether it’s poultry, meat, or other hardy foods. It’ll also save you cooking time when compared to cold starting the fryer and ensures the outer layers are clean and crispy and the inner layers are cooked thoroughly.

Clean and Simple User Interface

The interface of the Brio is quite easy and intuitive to use. The timer and temperature control touch-sensitive buttons are clearly indicated on either side of the display. The display itself is a high-quality LCD that is bright and easy to read. The Brio also has an array of pre-set buttons for frequently used modes like pre-heat, sear, warm, and a dedicated wattage button to adjust the levels for certain foods that can cook quickly.

You’ll have over 100 different presets to choose from for different kinds of food items and the 20 most common are listed on the air-fryer itself. But you also get 100 user-programmable slots to dial in settings for your favorite foods! It also has a delay timer built-in for more precise cooking ideas. The Brio also has smart auto-pause, that will stop the air-fryer if the tray is removed while cooking – quite a handy safety feature.

Digital Temperature Probe

One really unique feature about the air-fryer 6QT is a temperature probe that comes with the air-fryer. It connects to a small pin on the right side of the appliance. Setting the air-fryer in probe mode means that the air-fryer will keep cooking your dish (Chicken, for example) until the internal temperature of the food reaches the decided limit regardless of how long the timer is set.

This is a much-needed feature that ensures that the food is properly and evenly cooked on the inside as well. The probe mode can only be activated when it is plugged in (indicated with a small beep). The build quality of the probe is quite satisfactory and the wire attached to it can easily withstand the high temperatures inside the air-fryer.

High-Quality Components

The Base Tray, Fry Pan, and the Fry Pan Basket on the NuWave Brio 6QT are all high-grade durable metal components. The fryer basket comes with a convenient removable divider to separate two different foods while cooking. All these components are dishwasher-safe and can be cleaned by hand with a damp cloth making cleaning up super easy.

The pan and basket also have a non-PFOA (see why that’s important here), non-stick coating on them making the cooking more efficient and requiring almost no extra greasing. The Brio comes with a whole suite of accessories (see more below ) that are quite handy for cooking all different kinds of meat, fried foods, and more.

Wattage and Temperature Control

The Brio has a dedicated mode for wattage control in addition to its temperature control features. With three different wattage levels – 1800, 1500 and 900 to choose from, you can tailor your air-fryer to suit the quantity and cooking method required.

With certain foods or when cooking lower quantities, the wattage control might help save time and more importantly – energy! The temperature control can also be adjusted in increments of 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

What We Didn’t Like

While the Brio checks off a lot of boxes for the ideal air fryer, there is scope for improvement in a couple of areas:

Can Only Cook Reasonable Portion Sizes

While the air-fryer features a large 6-quart cooking tray and can cook significant amounts of food, quite conveniently for 3-4 people. We found that in some cases higher portions of food had to be cooked in batches.

It Could Get Slightly Noisy

The Brio is quite compact and can be accommodated on most kitchen tops with ease, the downside of having a large motor and fan inside a small body is that the Air-Fryer makes a decent amount of fan noise when in operation.

Customer Reviews And Results

Upon going through the customer reviews of the Brio, it’s easy to see why it has enjoyed a continuously growing popularity. Many reviews talk about its versatile pre-set modes that let users effortlessly cook a host of their favorite dishes like baked potatoes, pork, bacon, chicken wing, and even grilled steak.

It’s interesting to see that customers of a wide age range appear equally impressed with how automatic and easy the Brio is to use, drastically reducing their time spent in the kitchen without sacrificing the quality and taste of the food.

Another notable feedback mentioned by several buyers is how easy to clean its removable netted basket is. Finally, its affordable price point for its range of features has been mentioned many times, making it a value for money purchase for many home cooks.
