GoWISE Air Fryer Review: Pro, Cons & Final Verdict | AirGrub

GoWISE Air Fryer Review (GW 22731 Model): Does this bestselling air fryer live up to the hype?

The GoWISE Air Fryer GW 22731 is a mid-sized electric air-fryer that is suitable for 2-4 people. It is powered by rapid air circulation technology which keeps hot air evenly circulated in all directions – more on this later.

As one of the best selling air fryers on the market, the question is does the GoWISE air fryer live up to the hype?

What’s Different About The GoWISE Air Fryer?

The GoWISE air fryer comes with a unit drawer and a removable cooking basket which are both dishwasher safe. The basket and pan are made of iron with non-stick coating. You can put a rack inside the basket to divide the space into 2 components. The bottom rack might cook faster than the top, so you will have to switch the two components.

You can cook raw or frozen meat with little to no oil! In fact, excess grease or fat drips down from the basket into the pan below. This leaves the food crispy and non-greasy on the outside.

One of the ways the GoWISE is structured differently from others is the button on top of the basket. When this is pressed down, the basket easily removes from the chamber. The inner basket has vents on the side which is where the hot air comes from.

The second upgrade from the previous model is the silicone bumper inside the basket holder which keeps the pan a bit higher from its bottom surface. This will help the longevity of the pan and keep it scratch-free for longer.

The compact, lightweight design air fryer occupies little counter space allowing for a neat kitchen. As of now, it is available in 3 color options- white, black, or red. As a bonus, it comes with a recipe book with 50 air fryer recipes to help get you going.

What We Like About The Gowise?

8 Quick Start Built-in Cooking Programs

It has 8 built-in smart preset settings for pizza, fish, pork, chicken, fries, shrimp, steak, and cake. You can choose to work with the preset options or adjust the time manually. It offers a wide range of temperatures from 180F to 400F and a timer for up to 30 minutes.

The GoWISE is ETL certified meaning it guarantees safety and quality that is sure to last long. Another safety feature we like is that the air fryer shuts off when you pull out the basket. And when you’re done stirring or checking, you can push it back in and the machine will pick up where it left off.

The cool-touch handle and housing help you check the food during the mid-cycle setting. The pan is also FDA-approved and PFOA-free. The handle is very sturdy and this is essential as you don’t want the basket to detach and the hot food cause burns.

There’s also an integrated button guard on the basket to avoid accidental detachment which cooking. To release the basket, you will need to push the button guard-forward which will reveal the release button.

If you want to make changes to the cook cycle, press the pause/start button. Make your changes to the time and temperature and then press the pause/start button again.

If you need to change the setting, the upgraded start/stop button will let you do it.

Rapid Air Circulation

The GoWise GW22731 uses rapid air circulation technology to air-fry by surrounded food with turbo cyclonic air rather than oil. Oil can hold much more heat per dm3 than air which is why this technology forces a lot of air movement to create a similar effect.

Nobody likes uneven crunch in fries, meat or even baked food which is why this technology helps heat pass through all sides of the food evenly with the same intensity. No matter how dense your meat is, heat will definitely reach it.

During the air frying process, the drips off the surface and is collected in the pan underneath the basket and can no longer touch the food.  GoWise claims that the fat level for certain dishes is almost 80% less than the deep-fried version.

Easy Controls

We have to talk about the state of the art digital touch screen of this air fryer. . The control panel here is easy to use with a bright LED display that shows cooking times. You can set the time and temperature.

Sizeable Capacity

The GoWISE Air fryer comes with a 5.8 quartz cooking capacity that can easily cater to a family of 3-4. This means you can cook 4-5 portions of french fries, 4-5 chicken drumsticks, 5-6 chicken wings, and 2 pieces of a pork chop.

Unlike the similar model of Philips, the GoWISE does not come with a wire rack insert. So if you’re cooking for a large family or are entertaining, you’ll have to cook in batches.

It also features an alarm function in increments of 5, 10 or 15 minutes which will remind you to check on the food in the above durations. To use this, press the alarm icon on the display to choose the increment Once done, press the power button to resume the cooking cycle. The cooking preset and alarm should blink during the cooking process.

Automatic On-Off Mode

The timer also has a standby mode which creates a beep and automatically switches off when the cook time is complete. This prevents overcooking and burning of the food and appliance. So you can place the food inside, set the timer, and get to other tasks without needing to watch the air fryer throughout.

Things We Didn’t Like

Alarm Intervals

The Alarm function has 10-minute increments so if you’re used to cooking at 375F, you’ll have to adjust to 380F. This is not that much of a big deal but will require you to keep watch if you’re particular.

Not Suitable For Larger Families

If you’re going to stack food, it would hold a lot. But if you want to layer food, you will only get 8 inches of surface area. The maximum that it can cook at a time is 1 pound of meat and 4 cups of vegetables according to our test. You will have to cook in two batches if you are cooking a large meal.

How Did The Air Fryer Perform?

We tried making a mix of glazed chicken and frozen french fries in this fryer. And it’s a fact that most of us bought this machine so that we never have to order fries again! We popped in fries in the basket and chose the pre-programmed setting of 15 minutes and 400 F. We did flip over the fries and chicken halfway through. We’re happy to report that the fries were crispy and made a crunch sound! And the chicken was cooked all the way through.

We tried a few other dishes- Homemade fries will take about 15-20 minutes, chicken wings 15 minutes, chicken drumsticks 30 minutes and a whole chicken can take between 30-45 minutes.

A couple of tips to help you though-make sure that the air fryer is obstruction-free in the front and back as there are vents present. This allows the hot air to flow from the machine. If you’re cooking something that drips like chicken wings, for example, it’s a good idea to put water in the outer basket so that the grease does not stain the bottom. And it’s much easier to throw out the dirty water.

The GW22731 is not just for fried foods- you can also grill, roast, bake cakes, roast vegetables, and more. Of course, you can expand on the options with GoWISE accessories.

Cleaning is not too difficult as the basket and basket holder are dishwasher safe. We would recommend that you soak them in water after cooking so that the smell doesn’t linger. Or use warm water and a non-abrasive sponge for stuck food particles.

Our Verdict

All in all, the GoWISE GW22731 is highly rated and for good reason! It has a measured capacity of 4.9 quarts, which is relatively large. Its buttons and pre-programmed settings are very easy to see and use. And a bonus is that it is not as loud as the other air fryers out there. This is a must-have for people who want to sustain a healthy lifestyle. It allows fast cooking, baking, frying, and grilling with little to no oil.
